2024 Catholic Citizenship Essay

Eligibility:
- The Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest is open to all Catholic students - in public, private, or parochial schools - in grade 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 during the current school year.

Guidelines:
- Essays must reflect the assigned theme and topic, and submitted by the published deadline.
- Essays must be the student’s original work.
- Essay must be typed on 8 1/2” X 11” paper, student's name should appear only on the offical Catholic Citizenship Essay entry form, which must be stapled to the essay.
- All entries become the property of the Knights of Columbus and will not be returned.
- Email the essay and the offical Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest entry form by November 3 to:

Theme:

Virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to do good. It governs our acts, orders our passions, and guides our conduct by reason and faith. It also encourages Christians to live in a relationship with the Holy Trinity. The call to live a virtuous life applies to individuals in every state of life and occupation, including our elected leaders.

In an essay of 500-750 words:

"What are the two most important virtues for an elected leader to possess, and why? How can you determine if the leader has these virtues?"
Contest Levels & Awards:
Council Level – KC 4204 Sugar Land
- All entrants will receive a certificate of participation.
- Award certificates will be given to the first, second, and third place winners in each grade.
- $50 will be awarded to first place winners in each grade.
First place essays will automatically be forwarded to the next levels of competition: District, State, and International.
International Level
There will be a 1st place winner and 2 runner up winners for each grade level.
- 1st Place - $300
- Runner ups - $100
Notifications
- The winners at the council level will be notified by a representative of the Knights of Columbus #4204 in November.
- The winners at the International Level will be notified by the Knights of Columbus State Deputy in March 2025.
